Background

The Tivoli Endpoint Manager for Software Use Analysis is a web based application that uses the endpoint inventory data available in a Tivoli Endpoint Management platform deployment for software inventory and usage reporting. It can help organizations quickly and efficiently identify software installed in the environment, helping them determine license compliance metrics and eliminate or harvest under-utilized, deployed software.

What's Included with the TEM SUA Package

  • The TEM SUA web application, with an embedded software identification catalog. The catalog is updated once monthly.
  • The TEM SUA content site containing tools and analysis properties for endpoints to report their raw installed software inventory.
  • The content site for the TEM SUA integration with TAMIT. Note that the integration adapter itself is included with the Tivoli Integration Composer kit.
  • The BES Inventory and License content site containing hundreds of software and hardware inventory properties. Additional information is included below:

What's Included in the Inventory and License Component of the TEM SUA Package

Although the TEM SUA reports include thousands of software titles reportable through the web application, the following analysis properties are also included and can be added to the TEM SUA reports for a more data-rich experience. These properties will help users set up computer groups, filters, and columns for their reports based on inventory attributes that are relevant for them.

About TEM SUA Software Detection and Computer Properties

In the default install of TEM SUA, each Windows computer periodically reports the list of executables and the list of installed software items found in the registry. This "raw data" is brought into TEM SUA and correlated with a large catalog of software identification signatures.

The catalog, which is updated monthly, contains multiple versions and editions of over 15,000 products on the market from about 6,000 software vendors.

The product includes a catalog editing interface, which allows each customer to add to and tune the catalog based on their environment. In addition, any inventory data from any computer can be used as part of the forensic evidence for installed software, providing an extremely flexible method for creating and managing installed software detection. Furthermore, any inventory data from any computer can be used in the TEM SUA interface for analyzing the data -- e.g. set up computer groups, filters, and columns. What follows is the list of properties included with TEM SUA:
